Nutrition Counselling for Pets

Nutrition counselling includes suggestions on how to meet your dog or cat’s dietary needs.

What we feed our pets is essential to their overall health. Nutrition counselling can provide you with professional advice to make the right decision for your pet's diet. Food is not only fuel for their bodies but impacts their quality of life. Feeding your pet a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients can increase their lifespan.

Is nutritional counselling like a dietitian for my pet?

A lot more goes into choosing the right food for your pet than listening to the claims of a few pet food brands. Though colourful packaging and promises of enriching your pet with the highest quality ingredients can be enticing, you'll need more information to discern which foods are the best choice. For example, depending on your pet's life stage, they have different calorie or nutrient needs. A puppy and a senior pet wouldn't likely eat the same portion since younger pets need more energy throughout the day. They also need more nutrients to support their growth and development whereas senior pets' bodies wouldn't be able to process such a high caloric intake with their slower metabolism. What's the first step of nutrition counselling?

First, we'll assess your pet's overall health and current diet to determine unmet nutritional needs. Based on our assessment, we'll determine specialized dietary recommendations specific to your pet's age, breed, and overall health. Your pet's diet can also be tailored to treat or prevent health conditions like:

  • Allergies
  • Skin issues
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Nutritional deficiencies

Do you have special diets for purchase?

We carry a range of products to suit any life stage or specific needs of your cat or dog. If your pet is on a special diet for curing a disease or requires a specific diet not routinely sold at our clinic, we may be able to order it for you.
